Hard Rock Hotel Rocks With Renkus-Heinz

Success with famous party season leads to Las Vegas resort to make compact line array a permanent feature.

The audio team at the legendary Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas were so delighted with the Renkus-Heinz PN102/LA line array they installed last summer for the famous ‘Rehab’ party season that the hotel has now made the system a permanent feature. The hotel has lived up to its name by buying a complete system of 20 PN102/LA cabinets, 10 DR18-2 subwoofers and associated flying hardware through Rat Sound in Oxnard. It follow’s the phenomenal success of last summer’s 22-week summer season of ‘Rehab’ pool parties. A Renkus-Heinz line array system powered the packed-out Sunday events that were reported from coast to coast, drawing crowds of 2,000 at a time to the Hard Rock Hotel’s spectacular pool area. The season was opened by British superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Local DJs Larry ‘DJ Dig Dug’ Graham and Scotty Boy scratch vinyl for the party, and are occasionally joined by guest DJs including the likes of LA based DJs Scooter and Lavell. Dig Dug comments: “Compared to what I played on outside here before this sounds a lot clearer and better, and we’ve used a lot of different systems.”

Brian Schmidt, one of the hotel’s audio technicians, explained: “It’s grown really big, to the point that it’s blown away all the other Las Vegas pool parties and many of them are now copying us.” The man behind it is special events director Chad Pallas, who also decided to open the Hard Rock pool to locals for the first time.

Dave Rahn of Renkus-Heinz comments: “The need was to project very punchy, high quality sound right across the pool area, yet contain it so as not to disturb other hotel residents or the neighborhood. Not only were those needs met, the system has really blown everyone away.”
